Rainy Baking Day

On rainy days, such as this past Wednesday, I especially love spending the day in the kitchen!
My family likes to have a fresh supply of whole wheat bread for our lunches. Usually I bake two loaves every other day, so the bread is fresh half the time, and only one day old on the other day. Also, I bake several loaves each week to fill our farm customers' orders. Recently, I began baking rolls to compliment our farm's pork BBQ to sell as a "dinner special". I use the exact same recipe for both the loaves of bread and the rolls.

Whole Wheat Bread (one loaf)

1 tbsp. yeast
1 tbsp. honey
1 1/4 cup hot water
3 cups wheat flour (grind 2 1/4 cups grain for 60 seconds... we use our Vita Mix to grind our wheat)
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup honey

Stir to mix hot water, yeast, and 1 tbsp. honey. Let rise approximately 5 minutes until foamy. Put dry ingredients into bread maker. When yeast is ready, add to flour mixture in bread maker. Add oil and honey. Knead in bread maker for 8 minutes. Transfer to two greased bread pans, let rise until dough is even with sides of bread pans, and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Flip immediately to cooling rack.

Usually about once every other week I bake pizzas for lunch instead of the usual sandwiches. I use the same recipe as above for my pizza crust, except I omit the honey and add a little bit of garlic and Italian seasoning. I love baking pizzas on my new baking stone and they turn out pretty well most of the time. Yesterday I had a ton of peppers to process from Daddy's bountiful garden so I added many to the pizza:
The day just wouldn't be complete without Sheridan and I baking a batch of cookies. Sheridan has become quite a little helper... Probably because I let her enjoy the "lickers" (beaters). :)
Enjoying the fruit of her labor...
And attempting to help herself to another one...

yummy! have you ever sprouted your wheat before grinding it? it makes for much healthier food (and i think it has a little bit of a lighter flavor, too).

Wonderful-looking bread! Your family takes quicker to eat up 2 fresh loaves than my family.:) That is a great idea about including the buns with the bbq you sell!

i think i'm going to try this recipe tonight (we're having bbq, lol) but i'm a little worried about the fact that you don't have any rising time on there. you really just put it straight into the oven? hm. i guess we'll see!
