The Lord has provided an abandoned 100 year old house and dairy farm for our family. As you will see in the following pictures, there is a lot of work to be done in a very short amount of time! I am already looking forward to posting the "After" pictures, but at this point, everything is definitely still in the "Before" stage. I only have exterior pictures, but hopefully I will be able to post interior pictures in the future. The dairy barn and other outbuildings will suit our needs so well.
The dairy barn is huge and has 32 stantions.
The owners have been using the dairy barn as a storage room for many years, so we have a lot of clearing out and throwing away to do.
There is a huge hay loft above. Since Elliott and Oliver work for a hay farmer, they are very familiar with different hay lofts and say that this one is of very high quality.
There are many other outbuildings on the farm. It will be so convenient to be more organized and spread out. At our current home, we basically took our house and added a bunch of cows, pigs, goats, and chickens to our land and called it a farm. This is a REAL farm though and the set-up is so much better than what we are working with at our current home. It is a great blessing.
Daddy and the boys checking out different outbuildings on the property:

There is also an old singlewide trailer that we can use for farm interns in the future.
Our new farm is about 11 miles from our current home, and the location will drop about 10-15 minutes from most of our farm delivery sites and the farmer's markets we work at.
I've always been fascinated with learning about the Mennonites and Amish, and this farm is right in the middle of a heavily Mennonite area, down the street from the Mennonite store, and across the street from the Mennonite church.
Also, for several years I have enjoyed reading the book series by Beverly Lewis about the Amish and I feel as if I am moving to one of the lovely farms they live on! It is like stepping back in time.

There is a very, very long trail that goes down through farm land behind the house. I can't wait to get our four-wheelers out there.

Wow! Thanks for posting pictures, Meredith. That farmhouse is absolutely LOVELY on the outside; I love green and white together. And that delightful wrap-around porch! Mmmm! The outbuildings and land look wonderful too, albeit in need of some work. Such a lovely amount of land!
I am also interested in Amish and Mennonite settings - and enjoy Beverly Lewis as well. :) I hope you make plenty of friends in your new area. I'm sure you will.
I am so happy for you, that God has led y'all toward such an exciting step and has shown Himself faithful through each point in the process. I know He will continue to guide you.
Please keep us updated!
What a gorgeous place! And, what an exciting time for you all! I pray that God blesses you and your work!
Can't wait to see the interior pics! I adore old farm houses...and farms for that matter! I'd have way too much fun taking pictures there!
God bless!
that's amazing! i'm so envious!! wow. i can't wait to see it! do let me know if there's anything i can help with! i love working on old houses!
how many acres will you have for the animals?
That is just a beautiful place Meredith! I hope your family does well with it.
It's so beautiful, Meredith. I'm almost jealous! But not of all that work you'll have to do. hahah : )
Thank you! Tomorrow will be our first day working over there.
Mrs. Donahue, we have about 30-40 acres and the owner is willing to let us lease additional acreage in the future should we need it (the owner is a developer from Richmond who owns hundreds and hundreds of acres of adjacent land, but is presently renting it to another farmer).
Oh Meredith, how incredibly exciting! The house is so beautiful! I'm sure you and your mom are going to have a wonderful time doing it up, with Sheridan's assistance I'm sure - if she is anything like Joshua she is probably becoming much more talkative at the moment.
Sam had a phone interview last week for a teaching position in Victoria (different state - about 8 1/2 hours drive south) and an in-person interview today with a girls school around the corner... so things are pretty busy round here too. I have another three week school placement coming up when Josh will be staying at clara's place (sniff, sniff :(), and then a two week break and then another four week placement (Josh at Clara's place again). By the 15th of August everything will be finished! Very much looking forward to it!
Haven't blogged for a while now, experiencing a serious case of "Bloggers Block" but I'm sure I get back into it after my course is finished. I have been working on a new project too which has taken up a bit of time... anywho, I look forward to further postings about you and the farm.
Love Laura
Once again, it is wonderful and greatly encouraging for your readers to witness God's goodness to your family. May He strengthen your hands for the work ahead and may you all cling to Him more as He reveals Himself to you.
I am personally encouraged, as I wait on the Lord for provision im specific matters. He sure is faithful!!
Yes, that land is truly beautiful.
Hi Meredith,
Your new/old farm is beautiful. I love old barns with huge haylofts. I know it will be a lot of work, but it also looks like a wonderful challenge.
The sunset picture reminded me of Monday night when I was at Aaron's helping out. We were walking to the house after chores were done and even though we were carrying heavy milk cans, we stopped just for a minute to admire the lovely sunset.
We serve a wonderful God!!
Hello Meredith!
Congratulations on your soon-to-be new home! The house is beautiful and has lots of potential. Our house/farm needed lots of work done to it, but it was worth it.
Have a lovely day~
