Hitting the Campaign Trail

(Sullivan, Harrison, and I in front of the local campaign headquarters... Harrison was really happier than he appears!)

My patriotic students and I are having a lot of fun volunteering in support of Bob McDonnell for Governor, Bill Bolling for Lieutenant Governor, and Ken Cuccinelli for Attorney General. Even Oliver has joined in with us. Last night, Sullivan, Harrison, Oliver, and I went to the local Republican Headquarters and worked at the phone bank for about a hour and a half.
Oliver, Sullivan, and Harrison memorized their lines over the weekend and practiced many times. Oliver and Harrison both did an excellent job making the phone calls to registered voters in VA, but Sullivan... he is just incredible! Even some of the other volunteers in the room were surprised at how well he did. He spoke boldly and enunciated clearly. His lines were articulated as well, if not better, than most of the adult volunteers' phone calls. Even when the people on the other line told him that they weren't voting for the Republican party or they were undecided, he quickly and confidently responded with the lines he had previously memorized. He may be a future politician. :) I'm so happy to have this opportunity to expose him (and Harrison, although he is only 8 and not as interested) to all of the great things they are learning through the campaign and election process.

After Sullivan and Harrison's swimming lesson earlier this evening, I took them to the grocery store so we could pick out some treats for our own little "victory party" at the Alexander Campaign Headquarters tomorrow night. :) We'll also be working the polls at our local precinct tomorrow afternoon. We are excited to see the election results!

That is so neat that you guys are getting involved in some political things! I feel that is is important for us Christians to have a say in who is leading us! Daniel is down at the firestation today running a blackberry :)
His job is to punch in the name of the person who is standing in the republican line, and then it sends it to Richmond so they can check that person off their list and bombard anyone else with phone banking! -Rachel

Hey Meredith,
I hope you don't mind my adding to your enormous list of followers=) I am glad you were able to help. I just wish now I was old enough to vote. Well, a couple more years will do it.

That's so cool!!! I'm now begining to realize (after the '08 election) how important it is to be involved in politics, besides sticking a sign in the yard. Way to go!
