I received my beautiful white wicker hope chest as a Christmas gift from my parents when I was 17. While my collection has outgrown the small chest, I have added a trunk, several boxes hidden in the triangle behind my bed, and at least one more box in a closet at my grandmother's house. I suppose you could say I'm pretty serious about collecting things for my future home!
It is such a joy to think about my future home and family, and I find it very rewarding to accumulate items that will hopefully contribute in making our home a sweet and refreshing place. I love my hope chest collection very much because it reflects my love for my future home and family. I can't even begin to express how very eagerly I await the day when I will be some man's wife and can welcome him home each day to our cozy, little abode. That is the reason my hope chest collection is so special to me. It represents creating a peaceful haven for the man and children I'll love.I envision our home to be a place of rest and refreshment, a solace from the craziness of the world around us, a place for the training of our precious children, and hospitality toward believers and non-believers alike. Of course I'm not so naive as to think that there won't be days of discontentment, disagreements between my husband and me, nights of crying babies, and plenty of trials and hardships! But since Christ will be at the center of our home, we will have the hope that the difficult days will be bearable through His grace, and we can have confidence that even the trials He will bring us through will "all work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose..." (Romans 8:28).
I hope to post the pictures and their corresponding details very soon!
"Six things are requisite to create a happy home. Integrity must be the architect, and tidiness the upholsterer. It must be warmed by affection, and lightened with cheerfulness, and industry must be the ventilator, renewing the atmosphere and bringing in fresh salubrity day by day; while over all, as a protecting and glory, nothing will suffice except the blessings of God." ~Rev. Hamilton 1878

Ohhhhh... I love looking through and making things for my hopechest! I find it droll to think that something I am making as a 17 year old young lady will someday grace my future home, and that the teacups I am collecting will someday sit beside "me handsome lad" as we discuss the plan for the day together! :) -Rachel
This makes me rather wish that I had a hope chest. My mama has huge one, but the boys were given rights to it long ago, as hunting clothes storage!

hehe! My Mom's hope chest the boys were also given rights too. Ours holds Paint Ball guns!:)
I was given a Lane Hope Chest for my 18th birthday. As I worked I put things like pots and pans, a set of dishes, coffee mugs that I liked, sheets and towels. When my folks asked me to move at age 25, I had my household in a box.
I got married at 32 and had my house set up. Now my hope chest holds my wedding dress and my moms which she gave my daughter holds blankets and sheets.

Awww! I'm looking forward to the upcoming post/pictures. I am trying to start my hope chest. It's so much fun! :)
Hi Meredith!
I enjoyed your post, and I'll look forward to seeing some pictures of your collection! Recently at our thrift store, they had lots and lots of restaurant dishes that a very nice local resort had donated to them. We picked out about twenty place settings for our family, and since we were planning to buy so many, the manager at the store let us have them for half the price they were marked-so we were able to get them for a really good deal! After bringing them home, and after we had used them for a while, I started thinking about the possibility of buying some of the same dishes for me to use in my future home someday. Mom and I went back, and I picked out ten place settings for myself. We very rarely ask for discounts on prices at thrift stores,:) but since the store still had so many dishes stacked on their shelves, the manager again let us have the dishes for half-price. So I bought my lovely, durable restaurant dishes to use someday as my everyday dishes, for less than twenty dollars! I was so excited!
I thought you might enjoy hearing about our thrift store finds since you also enjoy them so much. :)
Happy Thanksgiving!
