10 Week New Meal Challenge

In less than fifteen weeks I will become Stephen's bride! As I consider my future as a brand new wife, one area in which I need to improve is in my meal planning efforts.

Before the beginning of our farm, my mom and I would make a shopping list for the meals I planned to cook and buy groceries accordingly. However, when we began farming three years ago, we started only using products we had an abundance of on the farm - especially chicken, eggs, sausage, and a whole lot of milk. While I believe this has been helpful in forcing resourcefulness, I have gotten stuck in a rut of only making a handful of meals instead of expanding my cooking repertoire.

I absolutely want to cook good meals for my hard-working man, so I am working on compiling main dish and side dish lists and am endeavoring to make one new meal each week for the next ten weeks, so I will be well prepared to creatively and frugally prepare meals in my new home.

I would really, really love it if a few others joined me in this pursuit, and together, we will provide accountability and encouragement for each other as we gain many new meal ideas for our families!

I will be posting my new meal's picture and recipe each Friday, beginning this upcoming Friday, September 3. I am mostly concerned about new main dishes each week, and may use old family favorites for side dishes. Should anyone choose to join me, please leave a comment on any of my blog entries with a link to your new meal's blog post sometime by Friday each week. I look forward to including any additional blog links on my weekly new meal entry.

I have purchased this week's groceries and am excited about getting started!

There us a wonderful website called epicurious.com you should visit. It is filled with recipes and reviews that are very helpful. You can search recipes by country, difficulty, ingrediant, season and more.

It has helped me out of my "three casseroles and red sauce" rut.

This sounds like a lot of fun - and useful at the same time! Over the past couple months I've started a new monthly menu plan, and it includes probably about 1 new recipe each week, so I might join you in this!! :)

Hello again! :D

I will join you! Only receantly (say the last couple months) my Mom gave me the responsibility of planning three meals and a dessert each week. I'm very pleased to say I've made several things all by myself that I normally just do along with my Mom and sister (such a tortilla soup last week, and meatloaf a couple weeks ago). So, I have been doing this for a little while now, only now I'll try to plan something new each week for as long as I can (or until I run out of things! lol). :D

I don't think I'll blog about them on our family blog, but I'll leave a comment and tell you what I've made, though, if you'd like. :D

Very exciting stuff! I'm also looking forward to being a submissive wife to one of God's warriors one day. This will be a good way to make sure that Warrior doesn't become bored of peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches! LOL

Your little sister in Christ,
Jamie

Mmmmm. I'm tempted to join you. I think between the two girls and myself, we might just go for it! I may do one, and they'll do one each for the next couple of weeks.
The girls often decide on, prepare and make one meal of the week, so this will be good to add some variety.
Yep - count us in!
Love, Anne x

That sounds like such a great idea!!!!! I am totally going to join; I too feel stuck in a meal rut as of late. Spaghetti everyday it seems!
Can't wait to see what you make!

Great idea. Not sure that I will manage this Friday but will try to join later.
Just a thought, there are some differences in prices between foods in the US and England.
It is probably worth checking out the BBC food site once you are here should some of your regular ingredients be expensive.
