Family Heirloom Hair Piece

The most special item of my wedding day attire is a beautifully engraved antique hair piece given to me by my soon-to-be mother-in-law.

The hair piece belonged to Stephen's great-great-grandmother who lived from 1863-1933. It was an honor to receive such a family treasure and I knew immediately that I wanted to wear it on my wedding day.

In her obituary titled, "Beloved Christian Woman Passes to Her Reward", she is remembered as a solid woman who fulfilled her Christian duty while here on earth. Several sentences were particularly moving and have become an inspiration to me:

"Of a radiant personality and brilliant mind, she was capable of commanding whatever positions she might aspire to in the social realm, but let it be said to her everlasting credit she was content to center her devoted and consecrated energies on her home and her church."

"The last chapter of Proverbs contains thirty-one attributes of perfect women and the 27th verse describes this now sainted character most aptly: 'She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness'."

"Her pastor stated in his eulogy that prayer in her home was as definite or as habitual as the daily meals and that in his meditations he wondered if the home life he saw there was not near unto God's ideal."

"And from the wealth of inspiring quotations from the Holy Book applicable to her life and character he quoted, 'Blessed are the pure in heart', 'She hath done what she could', 'I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness'."

It is such an honor to wear her hair piece on my wedding day and have her example in my life.

What a beautiful obituary! I don't think I've ever read anything quite that beautiful about a person who has lived in recent centuries!

And the hairpiece is so lovely! What a treasure!!

Pardon me for coming in without a proper introduction. I just recently discovered your blog and have enjoyed your posts. You are, unmistakably, a woman who seeks to glorify God in all aspects of her life, whatever sphere of life she may be in (and however many she may be involved in at the same time!).

I will be in prayer for you during these next days and weeks while you prepare for and enter into marriage. Are there any particular things you would like me to pray about, for this busy pre-wedding time and/or for your new life as a wife and helpmeet?

Hi Meredith!

You are SO close now! Only ONE week to go! Thank you for blogging about your wedding preparations. I am very excited to see pictures from your wedding day! (Although I will certainly understand if it takes a while to get around to posting them ;-) )

The hair piece is definitely something to be treasured. It looks so pretty in your hair! Are those someone's initials on it?

P.S.
You may not remember me, but my family and I have actually been to a "How-to-Farm-Tour" and met you in person. So that makes it even neater to be able to read your blog!

Simply beautiful: the hairpiece; the words spoken of this precious lady; the fact that you received, and that you're wearing this on your wedding day; and your hair with it pinned on.

What a beautiful and meaningful piece to have. And it does not hurt that it was once worn by such a lovely lady who lived her life according to God.
