The Wedding Week Has Finally Arrived!

The long-awaited and much-anticipated week has finally arrived! To say that I am excited would be a huge understatement. With the help of many wonderful friends and family members, the last-minute details are coming together well and we are very busy, yet not really stressed or overwhelmed. I am treasuring every moment with my precious family and overjoyed to begin a new family as the wife of my beloved husband.

Monday and Tuesday will be filled with around-the-house projects and baking for the coffee and dessert buffet we are hosting on Friday night for our out-of-town guests. We plan to have one last family movie night on one of these nights and watch our favorite annual Christmas movie, "Home Alone". I have been given a gift certificate to get a facial on Wednesday, followed by having my nails done (all of this is quite luxurious for a girl who was just gutting chickens a few days ago!), and then I am picking Stephen up from the airport! Our out-of-town friends and relatives begin arriving in Richmond on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, Stephen and I will get our marriage license in the morning and then head to Richmond where Mama and I will meet for coffee with two long-time friends who are flying in for the wedding. A crew of great friends also arrive on Thursday to help set up the farm for the reception and work on some of the cooking. Friday is an Afternoon Bridal Tea for my bridal party, the wedding rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and dessert buffet. Saturday, of course, is the wedding!

I am embarking upon what is likely the most packed and exciting week of my life!

When I was a very little girl (and, well, actually into some of my teen years...) I was well known within my family for being "Ailment Annie", as they liked to call me, because I was very dramatic when it came to the smallest afflictions. The latest ailment was always quickly dismissed by my parents with the phrase, "You'll get better before you get married!" I would promptly debate that this stubbed toe was absolutely unbelievable and was certainly going to be with me until the grave. Needless to say, I did outgrow that (and am feeling quite well today), but it has come to my attention that, at this point, this phrase may not be true any longer. I keep revisiting the scene from the Brady Bunch episode where Marcia's nose is accidentally hit by a football and, even as I pull cookies out of the oven, I worry that I'll get too close and end up with a big red burn across my face on the wedding day!

We are so thankful for your kind words and prayers. For those of you who have been kind enough to ask what specifically you can be praying for; we ask that you pray that our week will be low-stress and God will bless our efforts as we complete every last detail. Above all else, please join us in praying that our wedding day will be honoring to God and that our new union will glorify Him for all of our days.

Oh my goodness dear Meredith, what an exciting update for those of us who are so far away and thinking of you. I will be reading this post again because I take such delight in thinking of you and knowing that the final wedding preparations are now in order. I just love all that you have planned. What a beautiful, beautiful wedding. The coffee and dessert buffet along with the bridal tea and rehearsal dinner is such a delightful idea. I can imagine your guest and bridal party so blessed by the care and extra preparations you have taken for this blessed event. And yes I will be keeping you and yours in my prayers these last final days knowing that the Lord shall be shining his light through you all and blessing you with such a divine and heavenly peace that comes from His love. Many, many blessings my dear, dear sister!

Oh Meredith, how unbelievably exciting!
We have a similar phrase to yours in Gaelic: Bi thu slan mus pos thu'.... you'll be whole before you marry! We say it - and have said it for years - to the kids too! It probably came to you from all these islanders who settled in the South way-back-when!
(Actually, the phrase is probably common to most languages, but I think I'll stick with my theory!)
Every blessing for this most exciting of weeks.
Love, Anne x

I had to giggle a little bit @ your post. I never thought anything would go wrong before I got married. Well, Randall was dropping me off to get my nails done on the day before we got married ... I had forgotten to tell him something and went to open the car door again. I opened it into my head - hard! - and got a concussion!!

Nevertheless, we had a wonderful wedding. I am sure that y'all will be just fine as you've done soooo much planning!!

I can't believe this was your last weekend as a single woman!!! So exciting!!

Enjoy every minute of your wedding week. It's so funny that we spend so much time planning for this one event and it goes by so quickly. Try to make time for yourself to just sit back and reflect on your day and enjoy all of the hard work and preparation you have done.

I'm sort of a lurker here and have never really commented before. I just wanted to come out of hiding to tell you how excited I am for you. May God bless you and Stephen as you begin this journey together. Marriage has been the most wonderful thing I have ever done and has pulled me so much closer to the Lord. Enjoy it :)

Oh Meredith! I'm so excited for you! Haha! You know what? The other day I was making breakfast and said to Dad, "You know, if Meredith gets hurt, her Dad won't be able to say, "It'll get better before you're married!" :D"
Great minds think alike! ;) Can't wait to get up there Thursday!

Wow!! What an exciting and packed week you have ahead of you! The movie night planned with your family sounds so sweet and I know you will greatly cherish these last moments with them as a daughter at home.

Thank you for being such a godly testimony to young women who are waiting for God's best in their lives!

I'm a new reader, though I found your blog through LAF which I've been reading for quite awhile. I just want to say that I really hope and pray you have a wonderful and blessed week full of excitement and the peace of God's love and blessing over your marriage. I've almost been married three years in February, and I can say you are embarking on an exciting, sanctifying and loving adventure. I really hope your week is peaceful, and I can say that I'm thankful mine was as well, so I do hope it for you. May you enjoy your wedding, and I look forward to continuing to follow your blog. God bless from New Zealand!
